In this photo you can see part of the PVC pipe that I ran for my defroster ductwork. You can also see where I mounted the fusebox. If you are going to go this far, then you really should replace the brake lines, so cut them at strategic places. Check every thing again.
Remove all supporting bolts to the bulkhead except one on either side, loosen these. The large bolts attaching the bulkhead to the outriggers will probably be seized beyond salvation. Forget about these. If they are holding it, cut them. The bulkhead is not all that heavy, but it is very ungainly. I used a hand winch and some rope, winched it up, and rolled the chassis from underneath. Given enough room on either side, I believe two strong men could remove it by hand, but there are a lot of things nearby to be damaged should they get clumsy. Be advised that the bulkhead will not stand well on it's own. Be prepared to brace or tie it against a wall.
This is what you are left with. At this point, scrape as much grunge off with a putty knife as you can. Use engine cleaners, wirebrushes, and whatever else works to remove the dirt. I hear that Easy Off oven cleaner works great. Covering my carb you will see a rubber pipe cap I picked up at the hardware store. I clamped it on with a hose clamp, and bagged anything else that might suffer from getting wet. Next, the car wash!
