Running Pipe, Running Wire

But Will I Run a Rover Again?

Hydraulic Cylinders Before the wires were run, I ran the brake lines. It made sense to replace all the lines and rebuild the cylinders at this time. I purchased a good tubing bender, then saw I really did not need it. One problem I encountered was the 5 way union had a stripped receptacle. This was bad. No Rover supply company stocked it. Then I remembered my Austin Healey from years back. It had one also! I ordered a catalog from Victoria British for an Austin Healey, and sure enough, there it was! But Gawd....fifty four dollars? Well I could not see a way around it, so I bit the bullet and ordered one. (Part number 7-145). It was the same part, but I fabricated a new bracket anyway to give me better access once the front fenders were back on. I shielded this area with non-genuine galvanized mud guards from Rovers North. Pretty huh?

Fuse Box Install Next came the wires. Thankfully, I was smart enough to have labled them. Even though it was a harness of my own design, I could not remember where they all went!

More Wiring I guess I am a little fanatical about wires. I want them neat, I want them simple, and I want them easy to troubleshoot. 90% of all breakdowns are electrical in nature. It only makes sense. I do not wrap my wires, I just tie them with zipties. I try to run them out of the way, and secure them well. I always use a thick grommet where wires go through metal. At joints I use a quality solderless terminal covered by shrinkwrap extending about a quarter inch out on either end. I have seen people put hot glue inside the shrinkwrap to help seal the wire. Kind of messy later. Some folks swear by solder, but I found that solder makes the wires brittle and leads to failure. Note the Ford starter solenoid in this photo. Works well, durable, cheap, and you can get one at.....you guessed it, NAPA!
