Assessing Maggie

Making Plans

I go to a Better Place, My Friends........ As with Beula, my first task was to figure out what I will do with Maggie. The first job is getting her to where she can be steered. Then she can be moved easier, even by pushing.
I bought Maggie for parts, but it looks as if she will become my wife's Rover, and we will keep the top on her. My wife spent the better part of the night gazing out the window at Maggie in the moonlight. Like a stray dog, she stole my wife's heart. Maggie will be the Winter Rover, I guess.
So, I plan to get the engine running. Hopefully that will not take to much. The engine will turn over with the handcrank at this point, and she has compression. A bit of gas, a bit of air and a spark at the right time, and I suspect she will come to life. Maggie's Engine Next will be the hydraulics, and test driving. Once she is driveable, I will go into the electrics and rewire her. Then make her legal. In the coming months, Maggie too will undergo a frame off recovery. I plan to use the original frame this time however, since it is strong.
I will drive her for a year or so before I take her down to the frame; just to make sure she will hold together, and work out the bugs.
When I tear her down, I plan to use POR-15 on the frame, and truck bed liner on the bulkhead again. My wife doesn't want the added height of parabolic springs, so I will most likely reuse the old springs. I have some Old Man Emu polybushes left over from putting parabolic springs on Beula. I can use those on Maggie, and change out the bolts.
Maggie will be my Wife's runabout, and Beula's companion car at car shows. Hopefully I can get my wife to venture off into the mud with Maggie. If not, I can always use her to drag out Beula. At any rate, I want her capable and reliable. That will take some work, and some time.
Nasty DashI'm going to deviate from the 1967 look a bit, the dash will be the base color. I will put in a starter button, and if I can find one, a banjo steering wheel. I would like to go with the older, independent Lucas wiper motors. I just prefer the simplicity, and the ability to swap them out if one goes bad. Maggie's color will be Sand, or light Tan. I will use spray cans again. A real paint job doesn't make sense when you just scrape it up.
Of course, I am looking for deals on parts. Some items are better bought new, but others I prefer used. I believe in rebuilding and recycling parts. I have taken an inventory of my forseeable needs of missing nick nacks, and listed them below. If you have any of them lying around, Email me, and let's make a deal!
