Closing Thoughts

With my Rovers, I strive for authenticity rather than originality. To achieve a vehicle that is "like new" you have to go a lot deeper into the restoration and make the decision not to drive it, or modify it to suit your personal taste, much less play in the mud. Authenticity provides a lot more latitude for fun.
Spare Tanks I wouldn't really call Maggie's resurrection a refurbishment. Perhaps rejuvenation is a better term. One of the first things I did with Maggie is build a rack on her back door to accept two Jerry cans. I got the cans themselves through The Sportsman's Guide. They are NATO versions, with a porcelain lining so they can be used for potable water. Thus I kept them green instead of red.
Door Latch I also installed an antiluce fitting, that is used on a Series tailgate, to function as a positive door latch. If you choose to do this, consider the safety issue. With it latched, there is no escaping the inside, except through the front.
Having two Series Rovers is kind of like having two mistresses. Part of my fascination with Series Rovers is that each one is as individual as it's owner. They have personality. They also make demands on their owners in maintenance, and need to be driven to stay in good repair. Call it a blessing, call it a curse, it really doesn't matter. Maggie is here to stay.

MOTTA Show 2001

We took Beula and Maggie to the next car show. We didn't even bother to wash them. We just sat back sipping Coke, watching the antique car fanatics wax and polish while our hard earned mud baked in the sun. Having Maggie there and complete was a treat. Many people here have never seen one Series Rover, much less two. The interest was high, and the questions ranged from "How much did they cost?" and "How does it stack up against a Jeep?" to "Why did you use Cyclone fence for the grill?" and "Where are the hubcaps?" I love that one! The fellow who sold me Maggie showed up, and was excited to see her transformation. He has a Rover of his own that his dad used to take him hunting and fishing in.....

Oh no, not again!
"Daddy, Guess what I found!!!!"

It's an Addiction!
There is an old commercial that states "Nobody can eat just one."
That is how it is with Series Rovers
If you become involved with them,
You may succumb to an addiction
Where in you cannot stop at just one.
Or even worse, Shipfitter's Disease,
Where one Rover consumes you.
Be careful what you begin......
